Time to say goodbye...... :(

I'd be crazy to say that I don't love summer because of course I do! On the flip side of that though, is the fact that I have to let go of my kiddos. Please know, they are loved, cherished, and will be missed. You've raised great kids!

This week I will basically be babysitting! Your children are DONE with school, but the school calendar says, "No, we're NOT!" We have a lot to keep us busy though, like: an awards assembly, a volleyball game (teachers vs. 5th graders), Grizzly Day, movies, fun worksheets, a kickball game against Mrs. Rust's class, the K-9 officer, kindergarten buddy activities, cleaning, helping Mrs. C. take apart the room, etc!!!

So long families! May all of you be blessed in all your future endeavors! I will keep you posted on our adoption(s). We should get our call for our African baby any day now!! God Bless you!

Week of 5/11

Wow! Nine more days of school seems unreal! I am sooooooo going to miss my (your) babies! They are sure in my heart. They are such a special group of kids.......each unique and beautiful in their own way. This time of year is so bittersweet for me. The kids are a little higher maintenence because they are restless and ready for summer. I have to keep them busy so they stay out of trouble! The filing and paperwork for me is crazy busy too. That is the part that makes me crave summer myself! Ha! :) On the other hand though, I know it's my last days with these kids and my oh my will I ever miss these sweet babies. My only consolation is that they will still be at Glenwood and I can see them still!

This last week was a good one with our auction and our Friday Celebration. I first wanted to again say thank you for all the great auction donations. We had some awesome items up for bid! Some of the boys were just plain silly though, bidding on girlie items! Oh well! As long as they had fun! We did have a nice talk afterwards about what they learned from our whole economy system. They mentioned: job responsibility, not spending frivolously, saving, working above the normal expectations pays off, getting work turned in on time and keeping your desk clean helps too! I hope that they can take this experience and apply it in the future! We can only hope huh! Thanks also for coming to our Celebration on Friday! It was a wonderful turnout! That meant a lot to your children! They were pretty pumped about it. I was so proud of them. They even came up with the order of events. Treasure those poems, the book, and the profile picture. You and I both know all too well how quickly they grow up. Hold them tightly and Thank God for them because they are true blessings (gifts)!

This week we will have several guest speakers! Yeah...........I can't wait!

Math: We will do math centers that review all the concepts we have covered this year.
Spelling: Done........no more!
English: Done.........no more!
Reading: Never done!!! We will read all week!
Social Studies: West region topics in a reading comprehension format
Science: Heat, Magnets, Weather, Plants, Butterflies

Please remember to send the $5 Leonardo's admission to school by Wednesday. Your child will also need to bring a sack lunch that day as well. There is a gift shop if your child wants to bring extra money. Parent volunteers are $4. Meet us either at the school around 9:30 or at Leonardo's between 9:45 to 10:00. It will be a fuuunnnnnn day!

Week of May 4th

Hey Families! Are you as tired of this dreary, rainy weather as I am? I am so ready for the sunshine!! I want to plant more flowers too! These next few weeks, that will draw our school year to a close, will be quite busy! Here is what this week looks like:

Reading: Literature Circles

Math: Money, Area, and Permimeter - Of course we continue to do a daily review of old concepts.

English: We will finish up our poetry unit. We also do a daily English review.

Spelling: List 30 on spellingcity.com Your child should always have a list to take home as well.

Social Studies: West region topics, Location test on Tuesday, Capital test on Wednesday - Your child should have brought home a study guide last week to put on the frig or other safe spot. Your child should bring home his/her social studies book if that did not happen.

Science: Plants, Butterflies, continued study of physical science. We have learned about solids and liquids and made homemade icecream on "I" day to illustrate a liquid turning into a solid.

Our auction will be on Monday! Yeah! It has been so much fun and very interesting to watch. Some of the kids really get the big picture and have managed to save a lot of money, some not so much. :) Every child will get something at the auction though. The children with the most money, however, will have the biggest buying power! I also gave bonus money to the children who chose to do extra learning or reading. Read Beads, Reading Counts, Spelling Enrichment, and Mastery Club participants all earned extra money! Thanks again for the great donations! You are so appreciated!

Hopefully your child brought home the invitation to our special events for moms. The event is on Friday, May 8th at 12:30. There will be a sign in by the office. Hope you can come!

Please send the $5 admission money for Leonardo's. If you are volunteering, it is a $4 admission as well. Sorry, I think volunteers should be free. Thanks in advance for your promptness in this matter.

The last book orders for the school year went out last Thursday. They are due on Tuesday. There are some great deals on books for summer reading. I highly encourage summer reading!!! The kids (everyone of them) have made super gains this year in not only their reading fluency, but also their reading comprehension. We don't want to lose what has been gained. Don't forget the public library is a great source for books too!
