Don't forget that the field trip to Turkey Creek School is this Thursday.  Look for an envelope to come home on Wednesday. In this envelope, please include the $5 admission fee and an extra $7 if you want a class picture.

Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences begin this Tuesday.  I will send home a reminder of the time you signed up for on Monday.  Looking forward to sharing a little spot of time with you and your child to talk about our days at school and your child's strengths, weaknesses, grades so far, reading level, test results, and AR points and goals, etc.  :)

Quote of the week: A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.

***Don't forget that the Map Homework Project is due this Thursday.***

The quote of the week is: When you choose your friends, don't be short changed by choosing personality over character.

I am so very proud that most of my children are choosing to read at home!! Good job! Keep up the good work! Moms and Dads.....you have a lot to do with instilling good work habits at home, as well as making your children better readers.  This is where it begins.  Children who read at home and/or are read to at home are better readers and have bigger vocabularies!

We had a great time on our field trip on Friday.  It was a bit cold and damp, and the children had to wait sometimes for long periods of time to go to a learning station, but most were well behaved.  I had a couple really good class leaders that had a great effect on the class.  So proud of them!! There were a few that had some issues, however.  Hopefully, they will learn how to act in a public place on a field trip, so that they will be allowed to go to the Science Museum in OKC in the Spring.  I will be watching them closely on the next field trip to the Turkey Creek School in October. :)

Thursday will be an exciting day!! We will have our first payday!! Thank you to Gayla Brice, Rick Goben, and Carri Crockett for coming Thursday morning to help us make duct tape wallets! I so appreciate you!!

****Don't forget that book orders are due this Thursday. Remember, even if you order just one book, you get a free book! (Buy one, get one free!) That's a great deal and it sure helps our class!*****

Week of September 10th!

Hello Families!! Here is the agenda for next week:

Math - Rounding up to the ten thousands place; We do a short daily morning math review as well

Reading - The children will each be assigned a novel that closely matches their reading level. I will talk to them about "What good readers do when they are reading."   They will be assigned a project to complete when they are finished with their books.  They will have 2 weeks to complete their books.  Some will probably finish in no time and others will take the whole time. It is such a learning curve for some.....learning how to pace themselves and work with a time limit.  :)

Spelling - eCe pattern/ei/open syllable long e  Look for that list on spellingcity

English - Verbs/Helping Verbs

Social Studies - We will begin a 3 week study of Oklahoma.  This week we will look at the geography of Oklahoma including making a dough map!  We will also look at Oklahoma's path to statehood as well as learning to read an Oklahoma road map.

Science - We will research animals that belong to one of the biomes we've been studying.  The children will get to choose an animal and do a research report on it.  This also crosses over and covers some language arts objectives as well.  We will work on picking out important information, writing complete sentences in paragraph form that stick to the main idea of each paragraph, etc.

Our quote of the week is: Happiness is an attitude.  We either make ourselves miserable, or happy and strong.  The amount of work is the same.  ~Francesca Reigler

Don't forget to check over the book order.  There are lots of great books for good deals and if you order online this month you get 2 free books!  You will also help our class get 5000 bonus points which will buy our class more books and resources!  That's a great deal for all of us!

Be looking for a note to come home at the end of the week about our Turkey Creek School Field Trip.  It will be October 5th.  The note will have all the information.

I really am in need of parent volunteers to come on Thursday, September 20th.  I need your help making Duct Tape Wallets. (I will show you how!) Ha! I need about 3 parents.  Please let me know if you can come that day.  I am flexible with the time, so let me know if you can help, what time would be best, morning or afternoon, and I will choose the most voted on time. Thanks so much!!
