Week of 8/30/10

Hi Families!  It has been a great first 3 days with your kiddos!  So anxious to get to know them even better! They have been delightful so far!  This week will find us getting into more of a routine.  I will let you know each week what we will be covering in our various subject areas, so be sure to keep checking back at least every Monday.

Thursday, the children applied for a classroom job and on Friday they found out what their title would be.  It was quite exciting stuff!!  Ask your child what his/her job is and check out the link at the right that says "Economy System" to find out more about it.

Your child also has an opportunity to join our class Brainiac Club.  Most of the children have already jumped on board.  Basically, this is a club that encourages learning new things, as well as remembering the old!  I'm so proud of the kids and their excitement level with this!  I have several children that have already earned a few stickers for tasks accomplished.  Yay!! This club is not mandatory, but fun!

We are in desperate need of playground balls.  If any of you have an extra ball laying around, please consider donating it to our class.  We especially need bouncy balls (like for four square).

Here is what's ahead for the week with our academics:

Reading - We will be reading the story in our text called Because of Winn Dixie.  We will be working on vocabulary, comprehension, and the reading skill, sequencing.
Math - Place Value
English - Nouns
Spelling - Consonant blends......please check out spellingcity.com for list 1.  I have a link to the right called "Spelling Practice" that will take you there.  I will add the list on Monday morning sometime.  I will start spelling enrichment in 2 weeks.
Social Studies - Map work

We will begin Spanish in 2 weeks.  I take turns with Social Studies and Science units so that I can more thoroughly teach each concept.  We will be doing Social Studies first starting with map skills and then our Oklahoma unit.  Next we will be studying geology for science.

Welcome!

Welcome to 4th grade!  I'm so excited about getting to know your children!  It's going to be a great year!  Please bookmark this website so that you can get to it easily.  I recommend you check it every Monday at least.  I usually update once a week, but sometimes I will add more news as the week goes on.  Please check the links to the right of the page to find out about policies/procedures, our economy system, how to contact me, and lots of other beneficial sites.  This week we will just be settling in getting to know each other and learning expectations.  I'm looking forward to a wonderful year!
