Week of 04/28/2008

Hope your weekend is going well! This week we will continue our study of the rainforest, do a planting project, work on reducing fractions, and continue our journey westward. The children need to be studying the locations and capitals of the states in the West region. They will have tests next week on that. Hopefully you got the note on the powerpoint presentation to be presented this Friday at 10:45 in the library. I posted about it last Thursday as well. Hope you can come!

Our auction is coming up in less than 2 weeks! I will provide each child a sale bill and post pictures of the items up for bid on the blog, probably by the end of this week. This way the kids will have ideas on what they want to bid on ahead of time. Hopefully that will make the auction run a little smoother! We have a wide range of saved money! Some kids have quite a bit saved, while others have very little. All of their salaries have been real close in amounts, but some children have received several fines throughout the year for leaving messy work areas and/or for not getting their work turned in on time. Some children also spent every dollar they had at the store each month, not looking to the future. On the other hand, many children have went above and beyond what was expected and have earned extra money by doing extra jobs, reading and reporting a lot of books, and learning many mastery club topics! They also spent very little at the store each month and did not get many fines. Several children bought their own desks as well and did not have to pay rent anymore. Every child will be able to bid on and receive an item at the auction, but those that have more money will have more buying power. Real life learning! Hopefully, they will take this lesson with them!

Check out the Turkey Creek pictures below! We had a lot of fun! The children were adorable!
