Week of 4/21/2008

Yeah! Testing is over! Now we can have a little fun! This week kicks off our study of the rainforest. We will research rainforest animals in computer lab and present a power point presentation for you sometime next week or the week after. I will let you know soon. Also in science, we will study butterflies and hopefully get a shipment of butterfly larvae in this week! In social studies, we will study westward expansion. The kids will have a Southwest location test and capital test on Thursday. I will test them together because the Southwest region only has 4 states and Oklahoma is one of them! We will have literature circles for reading. We will be reading the Dear America series. The boys will read a story about a boy experiencing the Underground Railroad. The girls will be reading a story about a girl experiencing the time of the Revolutionary War. In math, we will be returning to fractions and going more in-depth with them.

There are 2 field trips scheduled this week. Both were on the April calendar. On Friday, your child should have brought home 2 notes about the field trips. Hopefully the weather will cooperate! Wednesday will be our track meet day. We will get to cheer on the 5th and 6th graders as they compete against other elementary schools. The children can bring money for concession stand items. Most things cost .50 to $1.00. Friday is our 1910 Turkey Creek school day. It should be quite fun for the children. They may dress in pioneer type clothing and they need to bring a lunch. The field trip costs $2.00. Please have the money to school by Tuesday. If your child wants an old time class picture, please send an additional $7.00 in a separate envelope. If you have any questions, please let me know. The notes I sent home are more detailed.

Once again, thanks for all your support! The children had great snacks and worked so hard on the tests! I am so proud of them!! You should be too! Thanks also for those who sent an auction item or more!
